Showered with praise, and lauded by fans shouting
" You should have won,"
Goldie is determined to become one of TV's hippest comediennes. Her contribution to VH1's FLAVOR OF LOVE helped the show become the network's second highest-rated and program ever!
The first season of VH-1 reality
show Flavor of Love was simply…
out of control. That show, was
must see TV. Whether we liked it
or not, we have to admit, at times
it was hard to watch and even
harder to change the channel.
The spitting incident with Pumpkin,
and who can forget Ms. New
York? These two ladies became
infamous, however, there was one
person who always seemed to be
the crowd favorite, who stayed
out of most of the drama and
managed to make it to the final
four. Whether it was her southern
accent, her big smile or her
infectious personality, Courtney
“Goldie” Jackson found a way to
stay low key but still play the
game.
“That show took strategy,” says the
North Carolina native. “I knew I wasn’t
going sleep with Flav, but I didn’t
want to go home either.” Her plan
was to “go Richard Pryor on him” and
keep him laughing. Unlike a lot of
the girls on the show, Goldie didn’t
embarrass herself. Of course, not
everyone liked what they saw. She
says her family was happy for her;
some were excited to see someone
they actually know on TV every week.
Her father, on the other hand, said “if
that’s the best they got for you, you
need to come on home.”
Goldie is from a small town, and was
raised on a farm. She says she
learned to drive a tractor before she
drove a car. Although her family was
supportive of her journey to L.A., that
was not her original plan. She was a
psychology/pre-med student at the
University of North Carolina-Chapel
Hill. After graduating, she was not
accepted into medical school, so she
packed up and headed for Hollywood.
Courtney and a friend saw the audition
for Flava of Love listed on
craigslist.com, and within weeks of
her arrival, she was a cast member on
the popular VH1 reality show.
There’s no doubt that many people
who watched Flava of Love had to be
wondering the same thing: ‘are these
girls really feelin this dude?’ Goldie
admits that she only went to the audition
because her friend kept asking
her to do it, adding that she says she
was actually hesitant about doing the
show. She conceded that at first she
didn’t want to do it, but was in fact
curious about meeting Flav. She
says she’s unsure if Flav was really
looking for love on the show, but did
sense he appeared to be sincere at
times. She went on to say that she
and Flav don’t keep in touch, but they
do speak when they bump into each
other at Hollywood hot-spots. The
Flava of Love alumni Courtney does
keep in touch with include Bucky,
Pumpkin, and Buckwild, all of whom
she met on Charm School. Charm
School was a VH-1 Flava of Love spinoff
show where host/comedienne
Mo’Nique attempted to make the ladies
from the Flava of Love show
more lady like. On this show, Goldie
was once again sent packing.
Mo’Nique, sensing that Goldie was
not as hard edged as the other girls,
offered her the chance to develop her
comedy and take her routine on the
road. In case you’re wondering how
that all panned out, according to
Goldie, “it aint gonna happen,” she
said. Rumors swirl that she did an
unflattering joke about Mo’Nique,
after which she was axed from the
comedy line-up.
Even though Goldie is no longer
Mo’Nique’s opening act, she is still
doing comedy. Currently living in LA,
she travels across the country giving
her comedic version of the tales of
reality TV and other funny aspects of
her life. There’s no denying that
Flava of Love has helped her visibility,
just as there’s no denying those
experiences are a huge part of her act.
She jokes about being nominated for
an Oscar award after kissing Flav
“that was some serious acting.” She
says Chris Rock, Ellen Degeneres,
and Chris Rock as her favorite comedians.
Goldie wants people to know there is more to her than what you see on TV. She is well educated, sexy and classy. She speaks at local schools and is becoming a popular
motivational speaker. She is also
taking acting classes, and just finished
touring with the stage play
“Three Ways to Get a Husband”
where she co-starred with Billie Dee
Williams, and Devon Warren. Right
on point with the personality we saw
on TV, she jokes, “I been an extra in
some of the hottest shit”. She was
had roles as an extra in “This Christmas”
and “DreamGirls,” and also
made an appearance in the 2006 film
“Accepted.” She says she intends to
make her fifteen minutes of fame last
a lifetime.
