      Come join the LA Lone Scouts as they work on earning the Hiking Merit Badge. Requirement #4:  Take the following five hikes. Each on a different day. Each of continuous miles. In the following order: one 5-mile hike (Pike Hike in March at three 10-mile hikes (April/May/June/July) Bay Back Loop in May Sycamore Canyon in June - Bridge to Nowhere in July  one 15-mile hike (LAX Hometown Historical Sites in August) -Sign Up at Requirement #5:  Take a hike of 20-continuous miles (5-peak challenge in September)  Sign up at ====== ABOUT HIKE TO BRIDGE TO NOWHERE: The 6 hour, 10.5 mile Bridge to Nowhere hike in the San Gabriel Mountains is one those hikes that you have to do at least once in your life. As the name suggests, you hike along the San Gabriel River in the beautiful Sheep Mountain Wilderness for about 5 miles, and then, out of nowhere, there’s a huge, 120-foot high bridge! The hike is fun, especially on a hot summer day, because there are plenty of stream crossings and water holes to cool off in. It’s a classic Southern California hike that every local knows about, so give it a try. ========= BSA Animal Tracks Award Requirements:  1. Complete a day or weekend hike of at least 5 miles round trip.2. Each Scout will begin an animal log book for identifying at least 10 wild animals (mammals, birds, or reptiles).3. Each Scout will identify at least 3 wild animals by sight or sign on this hike and enter their names and descriptions into the log book.4. The animal log book must be completed within 3 months of the hike. Scouts who have previously passed Second Class requirement 5 must also make their own log book.5. Each Scout will show first aid for Bites or stings of insects and ticks. Rattlesnake bites. ============= National Forests Hiking Award Requirements: 1) Complete a day or weekend hike of at least 10-miles round trip in any one of the four national forests in the Southern California Area. 2) Each Scout will carry abackpack with the 10 essentials and sufficent water for the trek. 3) Each Scout will keep journal of any significant sights and wildlife spotted during the hike. Make a presentation or verbal report to your troop upon completing the hike. ==========   NOTES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:  1) RSVP Scouts on Eventbrite only - use SCOUT’s FIRST-and-LAST NAME with parents email address. Sign Up ONE SCOUT AT A TIME. Scouts will bring their Eventbrite ticket with their Scout Troop #, Scout Council Name, and Scout Mailing Address, written legibly with a blue or black pen to check-in with LA Lone Scouts on day of hike. 2) Scouts will wear Class B with Neckerchief and bring their Medical Form A/B/C plus 10-essentials including 2-bottles of Water to hydrate...there is no safe water on the route there and back...and July is hot/humid during the day and cool when the sun starts going done. Optional: Trekking Poles (save-your-knees). Swimming attire (as underwear for water crossings) + small towel. Waterproof-safe camera. 3) Cost Listed is for (a) BSA Animal Tracks Award Patch + shipping fees, (b) BSA 10-Mile Hike to Bridge to Nowhere Award Patch + shipping fees, and (c) National Forests Hiking Award for Angeles National Forest patch + shipping fees. Scouts who complete this hike in its entirety will receive all three patches in the mail within 3-months of hike AND when animal log book is presented for review. 4) This is NOT a drop off for any Scout BSA. This is a strenuous high-Adventure hike in the wilderness. All Scouts BSA must be accompanied by their Parent and/or a Troop Adult Leader at 1-adult to 4-Scouts from the same troop. 5) NO REFUNDS - we will reschedule this 10-mile Hike to Nowhere if needed due to weather or earthquake.
