Community Rights: What are they? Where did they go? How do we reclaim them?

Michelle Holman, a founder of Community Rights Lane County and the Oregon Community Rights Network, will talk about how the Community Rights movement seeks to empower communities to protect our local right to make decisions affecting our lives and the environment. We focus on protecting our communities from destructive corporate practices by challenging the corporate “rights” and privileges that permit these activities. No matter what the specific threat is—from aerial spraying of toxic herbicides on our forests, to social inequalities, to local economic injustice, to the environment at large—the fundamental cause is the same: Governmental structures and corporate constitutional rights/laws are rigged against the people and serve corporate interests, regardless of their harm to individuals, communities and the planet.
