      Bayou Vermilion Preservation Assn Symposium

      BVPA will host its 6th Annual River Symposium, Rediscover the Vermilion: Expanding the Economic & Cultural Resources of Our River on September 13, 2019. This year's theme will highlight how strategic development around our river can improve our quality of life while protecting natural resources in our community.

      The event includes a day of speakers from 8:00 – 1:30 at Vermilionville. Registration and information can be found online at www.bayouvermilionpreservation.org. Registration for the speaker event is $27 which includes a light breakfast and box lunch. The student fee with ID is $5.

      Honorary Chairman is Pat Mould, chef, educator, culinary innovator and the VP of Programming and Development for Festivals Acadiens et Créole. Opening remarks will be made by Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser.
      Speakers include:
      • Kristen Veldhouse (Strategic Communications Coordinator for HDR in Omaha, Nebraska): discussing parallel river issues in Omaha with Lafayette and how Omaha improved these issues.
      • Chad Lacombe (Acadiana Planning Commission): discussing Brownfields, redevelopment and drainage considerations.
      • Greg Guidroz (Bayou Vermilion District’s Recreation and Education Coordinator): providing existing conditions of the river and resources.
      • Cathie Gilbert and Neil Lebouef (Lafayette Consolidated Government Planning Division): discussing citizens’ visions for the improvement and use of the river.
      • Eric Johnson (Audubon Society of Louisiana): improving our ecological state and eco-tourism industry.
      • Scott Brazda (Stuller Foundation): will moderate a panel discussion at the end of the day.

      Cost: Payment required - $27 for participants and $5 for students with ID
