      Ethics in Prevention Presented by: Leah Festa, MPA, CPS II and Bill Gibson, CPS II Course Description:   What is the Ethics in Prevention Course? In-person course of study in ethics in substance abuse prevention For entry-level and experienced prevention practitioners working in states, jurisdictions, tribes, and communities; also appropriate for professionals working in related fields. Based on the Prevention Think Tank’s Prevention Code of Ethics’ six principles.  Provides knowledge and skills regarding ethical responsibilities and practices, including the use of a formalized ethical decision-making process.   What does the Ethics in Prevention course prepare practitioners to do? The Ethics in Prevention course offers substance use prevention professionals—both experienced and new to the field—an opportunity to explore the role of ethics in their work. The course provides opportunities to engage in discussions of the prevention code of ethics’ six key principles and explore a four-step decision-making model for assessing, addressing, and evaluating a range of ethical issues.   What does the Ethics in Prevention course cover? Introduction to Ethics The Six Principles of the Prevention Code of Ethics  Application: Ethical Decision Making Process   About the Presenters: Since 2013, Leah Festa has been the director of the Prevention Alliance of Tennessee, a public health nonprofit working to create healthier a Tennessee by reducing the burden of substance abuse. She is passionate about making systems and policy changes to improve the lives and wellbeing of Tennesseans. Prior to this position, she worked at The Vanderbilt Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy as a program coordinator. Leah has been trained by SAMHSA’s Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) to be a facilitator for the Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST) and Prevention Ethics. Ms. Festa is a graduate of the University of Tennessee’s Master in Public Administration program, a graduate of the CADCA Academy and a Level II Certified Prevention Specialist. Bill Gibson served as a police officer with the Cookeville Police Department for 10 years. He graduated from Tennessee Technological University with degrees in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice and the Nashville School of Law attaining his Juris Doctorate in 1986. He served as District Attorney General for the 13th Judicial District of Tennessee from 1990 until 2008, Project director for the Middle Tennessee (6th Congressional District) Methamphetamine Prevention Task Force from 2009-2011 and Coalition Director for Power of Putnam from 2011 until the present. He is a Certified Prevention Specialist II and SAPST trainer. . Training FAQ: Q - How do I get my certificate?A - ONLY names entered into eventbrite will have a certificate ready upon completion. Q - How many Contact Hours will I get?A - 6 contact hours Q - Who has approved this training?A - TDMHSAS, TCB, and CPRS . This is not approved by NAADAC Q - Is lunch Provided?A - Yes, it's included in the price of the training Q - What should I bring?A - Bring identification, sweater, throw, shawl, coat and a jacket Q - Are there handouts available?A - Yes, they will be provided at the training Q - Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?A  - It is helpful for check-in, but we can check you in without it.   Refunds Refunds will be issued through Eventbrite to anyone requesting a refund prior to the training. Anyone requesting a refund after the training will be issued a credit to be used for another training.
