BASILICA BACK GALLERY ARTIST IN RESIDENCE SERIES: DAVON

Dancer/performance artist/hostess/southern girl Davon will be the final August 2019 participant in the Hudson As Muse Basilica Back Gallery Artist In Residence Series, presenting a FREE public performance of new work as the culminating event of the inaugural Hudson Eye series of programs, presented by Jonah Bokaer Choreography.

A free public performance combining dance, music, theater and drag to tell a story of love and loss, this will be a scripted event telling personal tales about the artist’s time in Hudson and reinterpreting Hudson as a personal rehab, a slowing down and detoxing.

The program will be a collaborative event and work fusing live and recorded music and drawing on the value of creative community, with featured performances from local musicians, artists, writers and performers.

Davon is a southern girl from Tennessee that has trained at prestigious art schools and has worked for many choreographers and directors during her career. Davon is now focused on performing her own improvisational based solo work to tell stories incorporating drag, music, storytelling and humor.

The Hudson As Muse Basilica Back Gallery Artist In Residence Series invites artists to explore the location itself as muse, and to create work with the eclectic present and past of this river city as central inspiration.

This program is made possible in part thanks to the support of The Hudson Eye.

The Hudson Eye is an artist-driven 10-day public program and urban showcase, with a focus on dance, music, performance, film, visual art, dining out and nightlife. The Hudson Eye curatorially frames 20 local and visiting artists, with performances, exhibitions, and talks highlighting ten issues of interest to the local community, with a “dine around” series as well.
