      CPD: Writing Inclusive Assessment Briefs

      Depending on previous educational experiences, students may have differing understandings of how to approach their assessments. We have developed a standardised assessment brief template to support teaching staff in providing a clear explanation of what is expected from students, and of the purpose of the assessment. In this session, we will discuss the importance of inclusive assessment practices, then we will work with exemplars to design inclusive assessment briefs that participants can use with their students in the upcoming semester. By increasing student assessment literacy with well designed assessment briefs you may also improve students’ self-regulation skills and reduce their dependence on you. Participants are encouraged to bring any existing assessment guidance they have used previously, module and programme learning outcomes, and a laptop so they can design and complete new assessment briefs during this session. Learning outcomes:• To gain an increased understanding about assessment literacy and self-regulation;• To become more aware of what inclusive assessment practices involve;• To have the knowledge to be able to design effective assessment briefs.
