Storytellers Live@The Hivve: Krister Axel and Mike Smith

Krister Axel and Mike Smith are the first artists up in the new version of the well-loved Storytellers format. Two artists play each others songs snd discuss the stories behind them, providing intimate looks into their hearts and minds that listeners rarely get to experience. The grand finale is a song written on the spot with lyrics the audience provides on a giant glass window, letting them really be part of the process like never before. Gusts can are asked to bring a lyric or word they'd would like to add to the process, and hear it performed in this one-of a-kind collaboration. Krister Axel was born in Paris in 1974. He began his career as a songwriter performing in the streets of Paris, New York City, Madison, Wisconsin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Ashland, Oregon. Krister has cited Chris Whitley as the greatest influence on his writing. His credits include pieces for the soundtracks to Hate Crime, A Colombia, and licensing with NBC, Regent Theaters, and many others. Krister had several songs featured on the season 5 DVD of Friday Night Lights. Krister plays finger-style guitar and electric piano. He is also a co-founder of the band The River South. In February 2018, Krister launched CHILLFILTR, a roots-based music blog. Mike Smith is one of Southern Oregons own. He has a deep love for great songs dating back to childhood, with both a father and one-man-band-uncle who played old-school country. He picked up his first guitar at age 3, and has played everything from country in his early days to heavy metal in his 20s, then on to blues reggae after discovering Stevie Ray Vaughan & Bob Marley. Mike has three original records of what he likes to call thoughtful rock, with the bands Rogue Soul and Mr. J, with new songs always in the hopper. He examines the larger human experience by digging deep for his own understanding. Music helps him make sense of the world, and he hopes it does the same for others. Mike is the creator of the highly successful Storytellers Music Series at Barnstormers Theatre, along with promoting countless other shows in the region.
