      The Blue Ridge Institute The Blue Ridge Institute (BRI) is an annual gathering of community service executives and leaders in the fields of social welfare and human services who convene annually at a conference in a beautiful rustic environment to participate in a rejuvenating and uplifting experience focused on leadership development, learning, and fellowship. BRI 2019 Speakers BRI proudly presents this year's speakers: Joan Garry began her career in 1981 as part of the management team that launched MTV. She followed this successful eight-year tenure with another successful run as an executive at Showtime Networks. Then, in 1997 while either having a midlife crisis or avoiding one, Garry was named the executive director of GLAAD, one of the largest gay rights organizations in the U.S. She is currently Principal of Joan Garry Consulting, a boutique consulting firm that helps nonprofits across a wide variety of sectors to untangle strategic knots enabling them to have a clearer path in pursuit of their missions. She is the founder of The Nonprofit Leadership Lab, a monthly online membership site for board and staff leaders of small nonprofits who can afford neither coaching nor consulting. Her blog at for board and staff leaders of nonprofits reaches 100,000 unique leaders monthly in 150 countries. Her podcast Nonprofits Are Messy is featured on iTunes and book Joan Garry’s Guide To Nonprofit Leadership was published in early 2017. Amy Watts is an international personal and business coach, speaker, trainer and author. Her extensive businessbackground as an executive leader in start-ups, fortune 100 companies and as an entrepreneur have provided her the tools to transform even the most dynamic executives into world-class leaders. Her presentations are passionate and provide positive motivation that empowers and elevates the people and businesses sheworks with. Amy’s success lies in helping individuals and organizations clearly find and see their Vision, know their strengths, customize a Plan of action, and motivate and develop for Growth. Phil Kaye is a Japanese-American poet whose original work has been performed in eighteen countries and was most recently invited to open for His Holiness The Dalai Lama for the celebration of his 80th birthday. His work has been featured in settings ranging from PBS to the New York Museum of Modern Art, and his work on creativity in an organizational setting has been sought out by companies including Google, Accenture and Microsoft. He is the Co-Director of Project VOICE, a poetry education organization dedicated to helping people find their voice in classrooms and communities around the world. Phil was the head coordinator of Space in Prisons for the Arts and Creative Expression (SPACE). Date & Time, Phil’s most recent collection of poetry, was published in 2018 and is an Amazon bestseller. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from this list and attend four of these sessions. Based on selections and numbers, participants will be pre-assigned to a session and time. BRI 2019 Meal Plan Fontana Village Resort is a busy venue and the restaurants will be very full around lunchtime when the BRI program session concludes each day. To avoid those lengthy waits, BRI has arranged for NEW options for an exclusive buffet lunch for our members and guests. The meal plan is available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and can be purchased for $40.00 for all 3 days. Lunch is half-price for children ages 6-10, and free for children 5 and under. On each day, lunch will consist of a featured sandwich, soup, salad bar, dessert, tea, and water.    This will be more economical and faster than the other restaurants on the property. Please consider prepurchasing your lunches on this meal plan to avoid the lengthy waits at the Fontana Village restaurants. It's also a great opportunity to catch up with other Blue Ridgers over a casual meal. The deadline to sign up for the BRI Mean Plan is June 21, 2019. Lodging Information This year's event will be located at Fontana Village Resort in North Carolina. The resort will hold the BRI Room Block until April 21st. Please be sure to book your room right away by calling 800-849-2258. Visit the FAQ for more information. Registration FAQ What are the key deadlines? The Fontana Village Resort room block closes April 21, 2019. We expect the block to fill before the hotel expiration date. You are advised to reserve your room as soon as possible. Regular registration ends May 31, 2019. Late registration begins June 1, 2019 and includes a $100 surcharge. The deadline to sign up for the BRI Meal Plan is June 21, 2019. Late registration ends July 7, 2019. The final refund deadline is July 7, 2019. Who is required to register? All Blue Ridge members attending the conference must pay a registration fee. All guests are required to register as well. Do I have to pay by credit card? No. You may pay by check and/or request an invoice. Please complete the online registration. Then on the payment page, click "Other Payment Options" and Select "Pay by Check" or "Send Invoice" to request an invoice.
