Physical Computing with the Micro:Bit A Google Educator PD Funded Workshop Series in Partnership with RDA Hunter Four FREE Workshops for Teachers Workshop #1 - 25th October Workshop #2 - 1st November Workshop #3 - 8th November Workshop #4 - 15th November Please register with your school email and ensure your Working With Children Check (WWCC) number is up to date (required by attendees to the school). Upon registration, we will email you and request your school name, location and your subject teaching areas. STEM + Making + Digital Technologies RDA Hunter and the ME Program, in partnership with Google Australia, will be running four, one day workshops in October -November 2019. Please select the date from Eventbrite to register your attendance.  The workshops will focus on the interaction between computers and the physical world - using sensors, actuators, data logging and data analysis. The skills required for engaging education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are the same skills required for Maker Projects, from simple toys and games in junior school to complex scientific and engineering projects in years 9-12. We will be using the Micro:bit with various pieces of hardware. Simple hardware projects will be setup and exercises given to introduce various levels of coding (MakeCode Block programming or text programming using micro python).  The workshops are targeted towards TAS, Science and Mathematics faculties for years 7-12. The workshops are run in an established STEM classroom space at St Pius X High School. St Pius has been running iSTEM since 2015. The workspace includes a variety of equipment, tools, work areas, 3D printers, a large CNC machine, various past and present projects and many boxes of interesting parts to build interesting projects. A variety of demonstrations and exercises, allowing hands on practice, will be provided during the day. These demonstrations will allow teachers time to experiment and build confidence in what is possible in their classroom. Teachers will see various classroom activities and student projects and how these relate to student skills and knowledge in the Digital Technologies Curriculum, the new STEM subject curricula and to many digital technology aspects of the Science, Mathematics and Engineering curricula over years 7-12. Online resources will be provided linking classroom activities, curriculum, equipment selection and operation and troubleshooting. Email correspondence with participants after registration will outline the days requirements. Please register with your school email and ensure your Working With Children Check (WWCC) number is up to date ((required by attendees to the school). These workshops are funded by GOOGLE under the Educator PD Grants Program and by RDA Hunter. If you are registering multiple teachers from one school please complete separate registrations with each teachers contact details - Thank you. Lunch Provided
