Altitec Academy runs since 2010 to at first boost our Blade Technician teams in the UK, but also to deliver skilled manpower to this fast-growing industry. To date, we continue our mission around the globe. Providing onsite training to graduates, with great potential, is what makes us different from other training providers. The demand for skilled rotor blade technicians operating to a recognized standard is increasing in line with a growth of installations and the repair schedule from existing sites. Rotor blade technicians are working in markets all over the world, and Altitec teams have been working in UK, Ireland, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and Mexico.The GWO Blade Repair standard is designed to achieve learning objectives in the safety and craftsmanship skills that are essential to this challenging, technical role. During the two week course at the Altitec Academy, you will learn the skills needed to get started in the industry from more than 10 years experienced supervisors and engineers in Altitec’s blade servicing team. WHAT’S COVER IN THE GWO BLADE REPAIR TRAINING?  GWO blade repair course delegates are able to perform and document blade inspection. Course delegates will have a foundation of skills to complete repairs to damage on the blade surface, trailing edge, leading edge, sandwich panel, and bond line.  Repair work in accordance with work instruction within the following dimensions: Trailing edge repairs up to 1.5m Leading edge repairs up to 1.5m Laminate repairs down to core material Core material replacement up to 200cm² Surface repair to paint and gel coat TOPICS INCLUDE Composites and blade construction  Health and safety
 Materials, tools and equipment Basic lamination  Blade inspection  Lighting protection system  Grinding and sanding skills  Laminate repairs and filling  Surface repairs  Trailing and leading edge repairs  At the end of the course you will be able to: Upon completion of the GWO Blade repair training course, delegates will be able to work safely with composite materials while conducting inspection and basic blade repair procedures, thereby supporting an overall improvement of the safety for personnel with job functions focussing on composite repair work and inspection in the wind industry.  In addition, Altitec offers Onsite Training for graduates that successfully completed the GWO BR course and have relevant certificates according to specific requirements at the time. Graduates are able to apply for this once they completed the course.    The GWO blade repair training course is intented as an entry level course and therefore the delegate will not be expected to perform repairs in major structural elements of blades like spars, spar caps, and carbon fibre.   Where? The schedule of an average day in the first week will follow a schedule something like the below: 09.00 – 09.15: Arrival and introduction to day’s learning objectives 09.15 – 10.45: Classroom learning: rotor blade inspection 10.45 – 11.00: Break 11.00 – 12.30: Classroom learning: safety during inspection 12.30 – 13.30: Lunch 13.30 – 15.00: Applying the ideas: inspecting a rotor blade 15.00 – 15.15: Break 15.15 – 16.45: Applying the ideas: inspection safety 16.45 – 17.00: Recap and questions Who is rotor blade training for? The GWO Blade Repair Training is recommended for, but not limited to: Rotor Blade Technicians, who are recommended to do GWO Blade Repair Training. Rope Access Technicians, working in any industry (construction rigging, building maintenance, etc.), who may be looking to enter a new field. Those looking to work as a Rotor Blade Technician, for whom GWO Blade Repair Training is highly desirable when applying to work in the industry. Engineers interested in rotor blade maintenance techniques and working at height. Those interested in jobs in the renewable energy industry. Wind industry service & maintenance teams. No previous formal training or technical skills are required. All relevant information will be provided through easy-to-follow presentations. The course is not dependent on a specific access method, but you will need to be confident working at heights. Who teaches the course? All sessions are delivered by our team of expert blade technicians and engineers. With a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in blade inspection and repair, both on- and offshore, in 10 different countries, they offer a wealth of experience and insight to participants. What’s covered in the course cost? All course materials and certification are included, as is Actsafe Ascender end-user training PME model only.
