CQI Wolverhampton - Quality Past, Present and Future Through Japanese TQM

Our speaker, David Hutchins, was fortunate enough to have become aware of Japanese TQM in 1968 only a few years after its origination. He was even more fortunate to make the acquaintance of Dr Kano, the late Professor Sasaki in 1974 and consequently and soon after that, the late Professor Kaoru Ishikawa. David immediately acquired a passion for the ideas that he learned from these eminent teachers. This became a life changing experience and from then on David has devoted his life to attempting to assist willing organisations around the world to consider, and then to adopt these methods. Where organisations have listened to him, he has witnessed some remarkable turn arounds in performance. However, he is also sadly also very aware that the forces negative to positive change can often be dealt with if properly understood but can also sometimes be overwhelming, especially when the resistance comes from powerful opinion influencers. This presentation is an overview of all that experience, and it is hoped that those listening will gain an appreciation of what the main problems are and how with careful planning that they can be avoided. This information is intended to be useful both to Western and Japanese companies planning to commence operations in overseas countries and also to those organisations who have previously been operating Western style management systems and who wish to avoid the pitfalls made by others when attempting to change to a more internationally recognised approach. Event registration will begin at 18:15 and there will be an opportunity for networking until 18:45. The presentation will start at 19:00.
