      Banff at Night: An Introduction to Astrophotography With Paul Zizka Over this two-day workshop, Paul and his assistants will lead participants through a variety of night photography concepts, from preparing for an astrophotography session to image capture in the field and post-processing. In the classroom, the event will include time for editing demos, critiquing, slideshows and lectures. In the field, we will be visiting a handful of locations that are world-famous for their beauty in daylight, but that look even more gorgeous under the night skies. As a landscape photographer, he particularly enjoys the challenge of capturing nature’s beauty at night and the unique features that come with a dark sky – stars, Northern Lights and dramatic silhouettes. Paul’s award-winning photos have been featured in a variety of publications, including National Geographic, Maclean’s, Alpinist, Huffington Post, The Guardian, Islands, and Climbing magazine. ITINERARY The itinerary is subject to change according to weather conditions.  Day One - Friday, November 15 1pm - We will be meeting in the Vermilion Room at the Juniper Hotel. Please bring your cameras and outdoor gloves with you to the classroom. (No need to bring the rest of your gear ie. tripods, lenses, warm clothes etc. We will be doing an indoor exercise with cameras and gloves only). Doors will open around 12:45pm and we will aim to start at 1pm sharp. 1pm - 4pm - Welcome, introductions, classroom session (includes coffee/tea) Why astrophotography? Preparing for astrophotography Image capture in the field Slideshow 4pm - 6pm - Break - Dinner (on your own) and prep for field session 6pm - 10:30 pm - Field session in the Banff area (includes coffee/snacks) Day Two - Saturday, November 16 11am - 4:30pm - classroom session (includes coffee/tea + break for lunch) Post-processing demo Critiquing Break Q&A Advanced topics: focus stacking, star trails, northern lights, Milky Way, human element 5pm-7pm - 3-course Group Dinner at the Juniper Hotel Bistro 7pm - 1am - Second field session in the Banff area (includes warm drinks/snacks) 1am - Conclusion of the event. Group shot and farewell.  IS THIS EVENT FOR YOU? Photography Level - ALL: This event is open to both amateur and professional photographers.  CANCELLATION POLICY Spots are non-refundable but are transferrable (i.e. if the participant is able to find someone else to take their spot and can sell/transfer the spot to a new participant, this is acceptable). This workshop must have a minimum of 15 participants to run. Paul Zizka Photography will issue a full refund in the case that the workshop is cancelled.
