Accommodating Change: SON Natural and Cultural Heritage Forum

Join us for the first ever Accommodating Change: SON Natural and Cultural Heritage Forum from November 13th-15th, 2019. This three-day forum will highlight the importance of SON's innovative assessment process, showing our defensible criteria, as well as how to achieve authority using consultation. Day One will focus on natural heritage processes and how SON has worked to raise the bar of consultation on all types of projects. Examples will include the trailblazing SON Coastal Waters Monitoring Program, Aggregates, Municipal Consultation and the SON fisheries. Day Two will focus on archeology and how SON intervened on archeology assessments and saved many important cultural sites. We will also focus on identifying areas of concern with the Ministry guidelines and laws. In the evening of the second day, SON will host ceremony, including a lodge with a feast to follow after the lodge. Day Three will be the most important for First Nations participants to attend. It will speak to the need for First Nations to write their own laws, particularly around burials and repatriation. The day will focus on repatriation and burials, with an explanation of how SON's framework differs from the Provincial and Federal standards. The forum will provide overviews of the legislative policy currently in place, panel discussions and time to ask questions of the speakers. For more information, please contact: April Root-Thompson at 519-379-2399 or 519-534-5507.   FAQs   Who should attend this event?
