The Broken Reed Saxophone Quartet. Charley Gerard – saxophonist, author and composer – leads The Broken Reed Saxophone Quartet, which he founded in 2002. Charley Gerard is a 2019 recipient of the prestigious New Jazz Works grant from Chamber Music America with the generous support of the Doris Duke Foundation. In addition to Charley (alto sax), the ensemble includes Jenny Hill (soprano sax), Justin Flynn (tenor sax) and Dimitri Moderbacher (baritone sax). Together, they transport their audience everywhere, from Mozart to New Orleans to Cuba, to the pages of poetry and popular culture. As its name implies, The Broken Reed Saxophone Quartet is linked by its sense of humor as well as its unique sound. The group will be performing "Those Who Were” (commissioned by Chamber Music America) and, with pianist Wade Ridenhour, “Mozart Swings” (aka “Bukowski Liked Mozart”). Sunday, February 23, 2:00 p.m.
