Increasing Water Quality in Oso Bay & Oso Creek

The Coastal Bend Bays Foundation is hosting Mr. Steve Synovitz, a Senior Civil Engineer at Hanson Professional Services, Inc., to discuss the Oso Creek & Oso Bay Total Maximum Daily Load Implementation Plan during its monthly Coastal Issues Forum on Monday, December 10th, at the Del Mar Center for Economic Development, rm. 106, 3209 S. Staples, Corpus Christi.

Oso Creek and Oso Bay (near Corpus Christi, Texas) have been identified as having bacteria levels higher than that allowed under the contact recreation category of use. The Clean Water Act requires the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to develop a total maximum daily load (TMDL) for Oso Bay and Oso Creek; the TMDLs are the maximum amount of bacteria pollution that the creek and the bay can receive and still safely meet state water quality standards.
As the TCEQ has been developing the TMDLs for Oso Creek and Oso Bay, an Implementation Plan (I‐Plan) Committee was formed with public input from a wide range of local and regional stakeholders. The I‐Plan Committee has been tasked with developing implementation strategies and management measures that will help to reduce contamination so that Oso Creek and Oso Bay can fully meet the contact recreation water quality standard.

Come learn how the committee is approaching this daunting task using local and regional input of residents and stakeholders.

The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation will begin at 6 p.m.
