      Catheterisation (Male, Female & Supra Pubic) incl. Simulated Competency Assessment

      What is covered during the day? This session will cover all theoretical aspects relating to Catheterisation and knowing when use is required for Male, Female and Supra Pubic Catheterisation within practice. Using models, this session will cover all practical elements for Catheterisation and an update regarding products. By the end of the session, all delegates will be able to work in line with Practice Guidance for Catheterisation, demonstrate the principles of aseptic non touch technique related to Catheterisation and take in a proactive approach to catheter management.   Learning Outcomes: ·      To identify what Urinary Catheterisation is and the criteria for catheterisation ·      Develop and apply the knowledge needed in relation to legislations, policies and best practice of Urinary Catheterisation including gaining consent ·      Review and correctly identify the Anatomy and Physiology involved in catheterisation of a Male, Female and Supra-pubic ·      Discuss and Understand the different methods of catheterisation and the selection of appropriate catheter for the clinical need. You will also identify the equipment needed for urinary catheterisation to take place, and the general procedure for all catheterisations ·      Identify the equipment needed for urinary catheterisation to take place, and the general procedure for all catheterisations ·      Look at and identify differences in practice for the three types of catheterisation ·      Identify the importance of good infection control procedures to minimise the risk of urinary tract infections and other complications ·      Identify potential complications from catheterisation and measures to prevent or minimise these and discuss and ensure understanding of routine catheter care for both service users and staff ·      Discuss and ensure understanding of routing catheter care for both service users and staff   Assessment: A simulated competency assessment will take place at the end of the session, supervised by our Tutor allowing delegates to return to the workplace and put to practice what they have learnt, until deemed competent within their organisations guidelines and protocols. A Certificate of Attendance will also be issued, valid for 3 years.
