      Colony Mars - a Megagame

Description The year is 2068. Five years ago the Pytheas mission to Mars was successfully completed by a joint NASA/ESA initiative. The spiritual successor to both the Mariner program and the Biosphere projects on Earth, Pytheas proved that establishing a permanent colony on Mars was possible, if difficult. A year ago, multiple nations and private corporations raced to be the first to plant their flag (or corporate interests) on Marsm each launching separate missions to the Red planet. It has now been several months since the missions have landed and the first footholds are in place, however the struggle is constant both on Mars, and on Earth, and the world watches with baited breath to see what will happen next. Will all colonies survive? Will any? That is up to you… Take on the role of a brave pioneer, risking everything to expand humanity in its first tentative steps to the stars… …or play on the Earth side, where in a world of limited resources and even more limited budgets, keeping your Mission going is not easy, especially when not all Space Agencies may be working to the same agendas… FAQs If I have booked tickets for a team as a group of friends can we assign the roles amongst ourselves? Megagames are great to play with friends and we are more than happy for players on a team to decide amongst themselves who will take on what role in the team. We reserve the right to assign roles to players purely in the cases where players are unable to agree amongst themselves. I want to book a ticket just for myself rather than a whole team. Is that OK? Absolutely! Megagames are great ways to meet people. Playing as part of a team with people you have never met before can also bring out new strength in everyone on the team. What type of role should I play? The Earth and Mars games, while lined closely will play a bit differently. On Mars, resources are scarce, and so teams will be focused on the logistics of survival, building bases, looking for resources, and expanding their horizons both on the planet and scientifically, and looking to other Missions for help and support. On Earth, it is a very different environment, with very active interaction between the teams as they compete for the materials, support and most importantly public recognition they need to drive their Missions. Each team consists of 6 roles: Earth Head of Space Agency Chief of Operations Communications Director Mars Mission Commander Base Director Expedition Leader Is there an age limit to enter the event? In general, the minimum age limit is 18 years of age. However, the game does not contain any themes or images that would be unsuitable for young adults. For players younger than 18 we have to be satisfied that they will be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult throughout the day. If you are buying tickets for someone who is below 18 please contact us so that we can confirm with you that they will accompanied by a guardian throughout the day. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? There is no reserved parking for the event. It is possible to find on-road parking in the nearby streets, but be aware that most streets are paid parking and city centre parking or park-and-ride are also options. St Paul’s is approximately 15 minutes’ walk from the city centre and central bus station. If you are coming by train, the venue is only 10 minutes’ walk from Cambridge station. Is my registration/ticket transferable? Yes, if you are unable to make it to the event you can give your ticket to someone else to attend in your place. What restrictions on accessibility does the venue have? The hall that has been booked is on the first floor and so does require climbing a flight of steps to access, so please do consider this before booking your attendance. Is food available at the venue? While food will not be made available at the event itself, there are coffee shops, restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Can I bring alcohol to the event? The venue does not allow consumption of alcohol. Any guests bringing alcohol to the venue or consuming alcohol at the event will be asked to leave. Can I get a refund? If you have bought a ticket and find that you cannot attend and cannot find anyone who can attend in your place then please contact us. If there is more than one week before the event then we are generally able to issue a refund as it is likely we can resell your ticket. If there are less than one week before the event then we will do our best to resell the ticket and we are happy to issue a refund if we are able to do so. How can I contact the organiser with any questions? Click on the CONTACT link at the bottom of this page or email 1chris.claxton@gmail.com.
