Libraries Workshop Series: GIS for the Social and Behavioral Sciences

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a catch-all term for the software that helps us create stellar maps and explore spatial patterns in our data. If you have ever used Google Maps to scope out your neighborhood or checked out interactive maps on the web, you already have experience using an Online GIS. But the software can be used for a lot more than just displaying information. Whether you are directly engaged in geographic-oriented research or just interested in delving into your quantitative or qualitative data in a new way, GIS is an essential tool for identifying spatial patterns over space and time. This two-hour workshop is meant for both students and faculty. It will give an overview of GIS and introduce its potential applications in fields across the Social and Behavioral Sciences.
