Yorkshire's only weekly comedy club has been bringing mirth and merriment every Sunday since 2001 to the residents and guests of the city of York. The finest professional touring stand-up comedians are continually attracted and the list of who has played here reads like a who’s who of British comedy.

The Basement
The Basement is a 100 capacity events space situated below the Picturehouses cinema right in the heart of York city centre. It's located on the main shopping street, ten mintues from both train and bus stations.The venue hosts an eclectic mix of events including live music, poetry, comedy, drama and DJ nights. Musically, anything goes, from local all-ages shows to new and experienced international acts all styles are catered for.
Its low ceiling and side on layout make the venue incredibly intimate with the crowds rarely more than ten metres away from the acts. Although not exactly what you expect from a venue, The Basement has a character of it's own.
