Distance and Trail Rating: 11 KM/6 KM 2+
Start Point Address / Driving Directions:
Shipyard Shops, 928 S. Madison St, Wilmington DE 19801 302/984-2773. From New Jersey: Cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge into Delaware. Continue on I-295 for about 2.6 miles after the bridge toll booth to the exit for I-95 North/ Wilmington. Drive on I 95 north for 2.8 miles to Exit 6 (SR 4/Martin Luther King Blvd/Maryland Ave). Take Exit 6 and turn right at the end of the ramp onto Maryland Ave. Just before the traffic light, turn right onto a very short street and then turn right onto S. Madison St. Drive straight ahead on Madison for about 0.7 miles, following the signs to Shipyard Shops. From the north via I 95: Drive south on I-95 to Exit #6 (SR-4/Martin Luther King Blvd). Drive straight ahead for 3 blocks on Jackson Street to the traffic light at Martin Luther King Blvd. Turn left onto MLK Blvd. Turn right at the second traffic light onto S. Madison St. Drive straight ahead on Madison for about 0.7 miles, following the signs to Shipyard Shops. From the south via I 95: Drive north on I-95 to Exit 6 (SR 4/Martin Luther King Blvd/Maryland Ave). Take Exit 6 and turn right at the end of the ramp onto Maryland Ave. Just before the traffic light, turn right onto a very short street and then turn right onto S. Madison St. Drive straight ahead on Madison for about 0.7 miles, following the signs to Shipyard Shops. Event Description: Start Point hours: Mon-Sat 10 AM-6 PM; Sun 11 AM-6 PM. The trail passes beside the renovated shoreline of the Christina River, explores historic downtown Wilmington, and rambles along both sides of the Brandywine Creek in Brandywine Park. The trail is rated 2+ because of some moderate hills. The trail guide describes points of geographic and historic interest. Wheelchairs may proceed with great difficulty, while stroller and disability scooters will maneuver with only moderate difficulty. The shorter trail includes both the Christina River and downtown Wilmington segments of the longer walk.
