      Yoga for Mental Health Workshop Series

      Yoga for Mental Health Workshop Series with Jessica King, MSW, LCSW Stillpoint Counseling + Wellness  This class series is for individuals wanting to enhance their own practice and mental health, as well as for professional wanting to incorporate the knowledge in their teachings. Yoga teachers, educators, health professionals, and therapists could benefit. CEU’s can be awarded for Yoga Alliance, as well as LCSW licensure. The workshops can be taken individually; however, there will be information that is woven throughout each workshop. Taking all 4 will leave you with a greater depth of understanding. All workshops in this series will incorporate yoga philosophies with theories of psychotherapy in both an educational format, as well as experiential learning. Yoga and Mental Health: The Mind-Body Connection - March 23rd 1 -4 pm This class is an introduction to yoga for mental health. We will learn about the brain, cover the relationship of yoga in neuroscience, explore yoga philosophies that influence improved mental health, and uncover the connection between mind and body. Topics covered in this class include evidenced/research based information regarding mind-body connections, the chakra system, the yamas and niyamas influence on health, and experiential practices for self-care. Yoga and Mental Health: Managing Stress and Anxiety – March 23rd 5 – 8 pm The class will provide a solid understanding how what stress is, the key components of anxiety, and solid skills to alleviate the effects of overwhelming stress and/or anxiety. We will dive deep into anxiety and its mind body connection. An understanding of the chakra system, as well as utilization of breath work to balance the energy of the body will be a key focus of this workshop. In addition to psycho education, there will be a practice that incorporates movement, yoga postures, breathe work, meditation, mantra, and mudras for decreasing physiological effects of stress. Yoga and Mental Health: Finding Relief from Depression – May 18th 1 – 4 pm The class will explore how habits or old patterns of behaviors or thoughts deplete our energy and influence depressed mood, apathy, or lack of joy for life. We will explore the use of breath, body, and meditation to influence the energetic systems of the body to improve mood, increase motivation, and encourage the experience of joy in living. Information on the physiological impact of depression, as well as how integration of chakra system awareness and balance can improve mood and increase energy. There will be an experiential practice for mood elevation and increased energy. Yoga for Mental Health: Skills for Self-Regulation and Treating Trauma – May 18th 5 – 8 pm This workshop will provide an understanding of how trauma effects the brain and the body with an intersecting perspective from neuroscience and yogic philosophy. You will learn yoga practices that improve symptoms of trauma. Through yoga postures, breath work and grounding techniques, we will build a tool kit for self-regulation. The experiential practice will blend what you have learned into practical skills to utilize for yourself, loved ones, or clients.
