Message flaggedWednesday, May 16, 2012 11:41 AMThanks so much, Natalie! These are great leads and I will start looking into them today. In the meantime, please find our location release attached for the Coal House.  One other question--do you know of any parks or schools in the area that might have a mural painted on a brick wall or even any cool graffiti art? Obviously we wouldnt feature any negative graffiti but looking for something that might give an urban playground/park kind of feel for one shot. Really looking forward to coming back to the area! Thanks,Laura

Hey Laura, Hmm...I would suggest the following, in no particular order: The gas station you're thinking about is probably RC's Country Store right outside of Matewan on the KY side. Can't find a picture of it ---but, their phone number is 606-427-9155. It's kind of a cabin-ish building..I'm not there that often, so I can't describe it well. I didn't get the attachment, either...so, can you resend it? We are definitely up for filming around the Coal House! Thanks, Natalie    From: Laura Casey <laurac@halfyardproductions.com>

Hi Natalie,  Thanks for this info! Sounds like it is going to be a busy and fun weekend! As I've gone through some location ideas with my boss, he has asked me about whether there are any general store or non-chain shops in the area that might also be an option for a backdrop to one or two of our quiz games. I remember one store that was attached to a gas station just over the KY border from the Flood Wall that we stopped in last year, but can't remember the name or what it really looked like on the outside. Any chance you know of any other stores that might be wood on the outside, or have a little porch on the front, etc that you might suggest I reach out to about this? I saw some pictures of the Hatfield & McCoy Inn that looks like they might have a store but wasn't totally clear from the pics. Thanks for any insight you're willing to share! Also, I'm attaching our location release for your review. Would be great to have the option of film around the Coal House if you're still ok with that. As we get the schedule ironed out further I can send you a more specific request with times, etc. Thank you again,Laura

Hey Laura, There will be three tours. One Friday at 2:00pm and two on Saturday at 9:00am and 3:00pm. Bill Richardson is the tour guide so he can give you exact stop times. bill.richardson@mail.wvu.eduThe tours last about 2 hours, I believe---I'll check with Bill, too.  Still trying to put together a few loose ends on some events but the basic schedule is as follows:
  • Live music on the street corners - all day
  • Local artwork - 9am-5pm-ish
  • Food vendors
  • Book Signing - Keith Davis, Michael Knost, Kyle Lovern (www.woodlandpress.com)
  • Old Dominion Gun & Antique Show - Cinderella Theater - 9am-5pm
  • Guided Bus Tours(Friday @2pm - Saturday @ 9am & 3pm)
  • Hatfield vs. McCoy games (still working on this one)
  • Genealogy - Coal House (Friday 10-4) and Tug Valley Inn (Saturday 9-5pm)
  • Post Race Party - 7pm - music, runners' stories, grilling

Hi Natalie,

Great speaking with you the other day! I will definitely follow up with the contacts you mentioned about the various locations and activities over the reunion weekend, but would also love to see a final schedule of events that you're running whenever that becomes available.

I realized after we hung up that the TVCC runs the bus tours that take people to all the Hatfield/McCoy historic sites along the river. Do you happen to know how many buses and what times they would be stopping at each location? I was going to try and get permission for us to film at least one of our quizzes outside of the hog trial house or one of the cabins and we would just need to request a timeframe when people wouldn't be touring the area or try to avoid a lot of traffic noise. We would need at least a 2 hour window so if you have any suggestions or ideas on what might work they would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you again and have a great weekend,
Laura
