Art After Dark at Norton Museum Of Art

The Norton Museum is pleased to introduce Art After Dark, from 5 to 9 p.m. the second Thursday of every month. The first Art After Dark premiered June 11, 2009 to rave reviews from an audience of over 540 people! This new and innovative evening event provides Museum visitors with a unique opportunity to enjoy the Museum afterhours. Every Art After Dark will be different from the last, but each will always offer music, film, special tours with curators and docents, hands-on art activities, a cash bar, delicious menu options from Café 1451 at the Norton and lots of FUN for everyone! Admission is FREE to Members, $8 for adults, $3 ages 13 to 21, and ages 12 and under are FREE. All ages are welcome! Visit www.norton.org for more information.

October 8 – Halloween Chill
Come in costume, and get $1 off admission
Enjoy tours, live music by The Jazz Harp Trio, art activities, a screening of the award-winning PBS art documentary, ART21, featuring artists Cindy Sherman and Yinka Shonibare. A discussion with Cheryl Brutvan, Curator of Contemporary Art, will follow.

November 12 - City Lights
Cheryl Brutvan, Curator of Contemporary Art, introduces William Kentridge: Five Themes. Also, see Martin Scorcese’s film After Hours (cameo by sculptor, George Segal), and enjoy singer-songwriter Jesse Jackson. As with every Art after Dark, the D.I.Y. Art Activity lights up the night for young visitors.

December 10 – Solstice Social
Marisa Pascucci, Harold & Anne Berkley Smith Curator of American Art tours New York, New York: The 20th Century. The Young Singers of the Palm Beaches and beloved jazz singer, Samm perform; HBO’s film Schmatta: Rags to Riches to Rags documents New York’s Garment District.

January 14 – Go Global
Take a spin around the globe in the final week of the special exhibition William Kentridge: Five Themes; dance to Afro-fusion and World Beat, and tour the renowned Chinese collection with Laurie Barnes, Elizabeth B. McGraw Curator of Chinese Art.

February 11 – I Heart Art
Make it a date to explore Renaissance tapestries from Vienna with Crissy Bergeron, Assistant Curator of Education; then watch the independent film, Smitten, a love story about art. Tours, music and refreshments round out your evening.

March 11 – Picture Perfect
Charles Stainback, William and Sarah Ross Soter Curator of Photography, introduces viewers to photography by Avedon and Fusco; watch Funny Face, a musical about a fashion photographer featuring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.

April 8 – 15 Minutes of Fame
In honor of the Norton’s installation Here Comes the Sun, join us for Wonderwall, a film recently re-released with George Harrison’s original soundtrack. Back by popular demand, a poetry event features readings on the theme 15 Minutes of Fame.
