Event details: ETAN BORITZER presents "BASIC BUDDHISM"
Description
Because of the great variety of Buddhist traditions currently practiced, we will review the basic principles which Siddatha Gotama (563 BCE - 480 BCE) himself taught to the order of monks, nuns and laity. This talk presents basic Buddhist concepts derived directly from the canonical discourses (suttas) of the Buddha himself, as translated from the oldest extant Sinhalese manuscripts. We will cover the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, annica (impermanence), annata (non-self), silas (moralities), samadhi (concentration), vipassana (insight), dhamma (doctrine) and nibbana (extinction). Etan Boritzer is the author of "What is God?"
