In the tradition of comedians who have made the transition from the stage to the screen, such as Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby, multi-talented Guy Torry has made the leap to comedic actor with great success. You can catch Guy on the new season of Russell Simmons Def Comedy Jam on HBO. He will next be seen on the big screen in four upcoming movies. âFunny Money,â opposite Chevy Chase, Penelope Ann Miller and Chris McDonald, âThe Last Stand,â starring Anthony Anderson, Darrin Henson, Kevin Hart and written and directed by Russ Parr and âDead and Deader,â opposite Dean Cain and Susan Ward and the Independent thriller âSlow Burn,â opposite Ray Liotta, Taye Diggs, LL Cool J and Mekhi Phifer. Slow Burn is on the big screen April 13th. Guy recently appeared with Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear and Eva Mendes in the 20th Century Fox Film, âStuck on Youâ and his many feature film credits include âRunaway Jury,â âDon't Say A Word,â âPearl Harbor,â âLife,â âThe Animalâ and most notably âAmerican History X.â
The St. Louis native also received critical acclaim for his work on the small screen starring in the NBC mini-series âThe 70's,â the HBO television movie âIntroducing Dorothy Dandridgeâ and the UPN drama âThe Strip.â Guy has made guest star appearances on television series including âBlind Justice,â âThe Shield,â âOne On One,â âX Filesâ and âNYPD Blue.â He also supplied his voice on the animated Nickelodeon series âAs Told By Ginger.â
While attending Southeast Missouri State University, Guy had a curious desire to pursue a career in entertainment. Once in Los Angeles, he landed a job as a production assistant on the Fox comedy âMartin.â His quick wit captured the attention of the show's writers, producers and eventually the show's star Martin Lawrence. Guy became a contributing writer to the series and had subsequent writing stints on sitcoms such as âMinor Adjustmentsâ and âMoeshaâ.
Guy's televised stand up credits include recent performances on BET's âComic View,â Comedy Central's âPremium Blend,â âShowtime at the Apolloâ and âRussell Simmons: Def Comedy Jamâ where he made his standup debut to a national audience. Guy also hosted the enormously successful 52 city comedy tour âThe Kings of Comedyâ which grossed over $37M. He created a unique concept called âPhat Comedy Tuesdaysâ which was a weekly showcase for up and coming comedians. This evolved into a weekly spotlight at the Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip entitled âThe Guy Torry Showâ where Guy hosts and produces a comedy showcase featuring an improve comedy troupe. This event was regularly attended by the comedy A-List including Eddie Murphy, Chris Tucker and Chris Rock.
Guy is now hosting BET's new sports show BALLERS. This new show is bringing the feel of a night out with the boys to your living room â a fresh new series that talks about sports in a sexy club environment hosted by four-time NBA World Champion John Salley, three-time NFL Pro Bowler Hugh Douglas and comedian Guy Torry. The show debuts Friday, April 20th on BET.
He is currently performing in comedy clubs across the country. Guy and his wife Monica currently reside in Los Angeles.
