Description
The January 18th MLK, Jr. Day and Pre-Inaugural Planning Committee at Plymouth Congregational UCC has issued a call to a host of progressive and diverse organizations for participation in a very broad-based celebration and rally to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to celebrate the historic election of President-Elect Barack Obama: "The Continuation of Hope and Real Change." The goal of this event is to reinforce the need for organization and organizing. To date, the speakers we have invited, most of whom have confirmed are Bill Fletcher, Jr., Sarita Gupta, Phyllis Bennis, Linda Leaks, Hilary O. Shelton, Tram Nguyen, and Rev. Grayan Hagler. Artists participation includes Omekongo, DC Labor Chorus, Voice of Praise, Luci Murphy and Daughter and more. There will be two panels and a brief Q & A to follow each panel. I. Panel one: How Did We Get Here? II. Panel two: The Need for Economic and Social Justice Movements In the Obama Era. Currently, the plan is to have three, 20-minute segments lifting up the artist community! We will open the doors for the program at 5 p.m. for food sales and tabling by folks building organizations. We would be honored to have your participation the program on this momentous occasion.
