Description
There's a bit of backstory to share along with the description. So, I've tried not to charge for Meetups. To organize events, there is a site fee, and in the interest of transparency, that site fee is $72 for 6 months' subscription, meaning, $12/month. I know it'd be cool to just ask for $1 a month from people who come to Meetups, but still, I've not done it and I've been looking for sponsors. It helps build community and relationships and improves patronage at restaurants and stores for the businesses that do sponsor groups. Win-win. So, we've been fortunate to have a potential sponsor for our Meetups come forth in Harvetta from Presse Bookstore. She's invited me to her bookstore and it's great! We would have the opportunity to use the internet, if wanted (she has a big screen TV that gets internet...I don't understand how, but it works!), and she can brew coffee if we'd like. She does not yet have a cafe (in the works) but she'll allow beverages to be brought in and there's a French coffeeshop, Patisserie Poupon, across the street. . Also, she's mentioned a 20% discount on book purchases for Meetup events. So, if you've been jonesing for a book, call ahead to make sure she's got it in stock and you can purchase it at our Meetups. She's a member of Indie Bound, a coalition of independent bookstores (they still exist, and even thrive in D.C., in fact, one of the "most bibliophilic cities" in America) who are an alternative to the Wal-Marts, Amazons and Targets who are putting smaller bookstores out of business. So, let's have a meeting at Presse and give it a shot! If it works our for both parties, our Meetup and for Presse Bookstore, future meetups here would be once a month (keeping the other Meetups at restaurants to try the Turkish cuisine in the D.C. area). If you'd like to eat beforehand, it's in Georgetown, so there's no shortage of places to eat, or, there'll be time to stop home for people beforehand because we're going to start this one at 7pm. Buses that go there: #32 (and I hear #34 and #36) and the Circulator, and it's near the corner of Q St. NW and Wisconsin Avenue. Parking is available on the street and should be available at 6:30pm ($2/hour) or on side streets (2 hour parking...don't get ticketed). It's also walkable/bikable from Dupont Circle (as walkable/bikable as you want it to be, that is).
