Description
THE 2009 LATINO INAUGURAL CELEBRATION Celebrating the Latino Community’s Participation in the U.S. Presidential Election Hall of the Americas at the Organization of American States Washington, DC Attire: Black Tie Optional 7:30 p.m. – Midnight In 2008, Latinos played an invaluable role in electing Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America. The Latino Inaugural Celebration will highlight the national Hispanic grassroots movement and the impact of the Hispanic vote in the election, which was a key factor in President-Elect Barack Obama’s historic victory. According to Voto Latino, a nonpartisan civic engagement organization, approximately 10 million U.S. Hispanics participated in this historic election by turning out to vote. Out of those votes, President-Elect Obama captured the support of 67 percent of the U.S. Hispanic vote. “Si Se Puede!” was the Spanish language call- to-arms which, raised and energized a passionate Latino electorate into action. Join us for an evening to celebrate the significant impact of the Latino vote, the new change in U.S. politics, and the grassroots movement that brought this change about. The evening will be a fun-filled night of music, food, and cultural entertainment representing the rich diversity of the Latino heritage in the United States. The Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening will be Teresa Rodriguez, Univision’s correspondent and co-host of Aqui y Ahora. Featured entertainment includes Mariachi Los Amigos, Los Hermanos de la Salsa, La Orquesta Zeniza All Star, DJ El Gallo Claudio, DJ Maestro, and others to be announced soon. Invited guest speakers include Congresswoman Hilda Solis, Senator Ken Salazar, and Governor Bill Richardson. Other special guests that have been invited are the ambassadors of the Organization of American States. The Secretary General of the Organization of American States, his Excellency Jose Miguel Insulza will be welcoming us to the OAS. The cost per ticket to attend the celebration is $125.
