Event details: Cohen, Stephen P.
Description
Stephen Cohen, director of the Institute for Middle East Peace and Development, has written a comprehensive account of American Middle East diplomacy since the end of World War I. The product of forty years of work and study in the region, this volume begins with the idealism of Woodrow Wilsonâ"which Cohen sees as the source of a confused legacy that plagues U.S. efforts in the region to this dayâ"and moves through Egyptâs nationalism, British imperialism in Iran, and on to Americaâs alliance with the Saudis, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Cohen argues that a âone-size-fits-allâ diplomacy will not work.
More about Politics & Prose
Politics & Prose
Our customers see us as a community center, a notion that we have fostered to the best of our ability. In this increasingly fragmented age people crave public places where they can relax with friends or in solitude. We have consciously attempted to provide this environment through our coffeehouse, and in the store with comfortable chairs for reading and relaxing (which we have provided since we opened fourteen years ago), and especially through our public events. We provide a mix of talks and readings to appeal to old and young, women and men, black and white—some for entertainment and others for raising issues.Post a Countdown Widget
