Description
This is a cross-posted event hosted by Virginia Freethought Renaissance... We will likely have a group outing in March to see the upcoming film, 'Collision', regarding this debate. We will be discussing "Is Christianity Good for the World?" This is a debate between Douglas Wilson and Christopher Hitchens. This is a short text which you should be able to read in 1-2 hours or you can watch the debate. Here are the ways you can prepare yourself for this discussion! (Only one of the following is necessary.) 1. Some of us saw this debate live in October... While the text version is longer, you're welcome to come with this experience only. 2. You can watch Hitchens/Wilson Debate the topic online. There are two versions available - here (1) and here (2). 3. You can read the text online at Christianity Today. The entire text is available here however accessing it can be a bit confusing. After reading the intro, you need to read all the pages in each 'round.' There are 6 rounds... each contains a response from both parties for a total of about 5 pages. 4. You can purchase the book. The list price for this book is $12. However, it can be obtained at Amazon for $9.41. The member price at Barnes and Noble is $8.64. There is a preview of the book here. There is a kitchenette available in the library meeting room 1 and you are welcome to bring a snack - either for yourself or to share. Wireless Internet access is available with your laptop.
