The Lancashire Hotpots, one of the biggest bands in the North West of England, end a very busy and successful 2009 with their Christmas lament
‘Carry You Home’ single and their album 'Christmas Cracker'.
It might be an odd thing for a comedy band to release a ‘serious’ record, however special things can happen at Christmas and for the Hotpots this is a very special record. ‘Carry You Home’ is what happens when during times of seasonal merriment thoughts turn to the troubles we all face within our lives and the support we can give to each other. Being the Hotpots, this is still a drinking song but one which wears its heart on its sleeve. The single also includes the re-recording of their ultimate crowd pleaser ‘Chippy Tea’ and is taken from their new album ‘Christmas Cracker’
According to The Lancashire Hotpots, Christmas is a gas. The Hotpots with their unique musical outlook on life in the twenty first century have inhaled this gas and have exhaled ‘The Lancashire Hotpots’ Christmas Cracker’, a Christmas album like no other. Topics under discussion include how to craft a non offensive politically correct Christmas song (Happy Non Denomination Winter Festival Celebration), a realisation that Christmas is primarily the time to celebrate his holiness Sir Cliff Richard (Its Cliff-mas Time) and how Christmas may be perceived in future years due to the impact of global warming (Phew, What a Scorcher!). As an extra festive gift, the album also features twelve karaoke versions of tracks taken from their ‘Never Mind The Hotpots’ and ‘Pot Sounds’ albums.
“You won’t find another band like this, I promise!”
BBC R2 Steve Lamacq
With close to a million MySpace plays to date, national radio play and support from BBC R2 Chris Evans and BBC R2 and 6 Music Steve Lamacq, and because of their no nonsense approach to comedy and fun, the band have quickly acquired a massive national following. Last year they supported ardent fan Paddy McGuinness on his ‘Paddy McGuinness Plus You’ tour, which took in 18 dates performing to more than 20,000 people as well as selling out 1,400 capacity venues on their ‘POT SOUNDS’ album tour.
The band have graced not one, but two stages at this years Glastonbury (the Avalon and Rabbit Hole stages), to an audience that included none other than Steve Lamacq who declared them one of his 5 top moments of this years festival! Other festivals this year have included Solfest, Brampton Live, and Ynot Festival main stages.
The band has also taken their summer ‘Ooh Me Knees’ theatre tour to sell out audiences to, amongst many other places, the North Pier, Blackpool.
Christmas engagements include performing at Rock FM’s Jingle Ball (Blackpool Pleasure Beach), Preston town centre’s Celeb In The City (with a performance on Real Radio) and the Wigan Town Centre Christmas lights switch on (subject to confirmation).
With 2 successful albums behind them, ‘Never Mind The Hotpots’ and ‘Pot Sounds’ both having reached No: 1 in the iTunes comedy download charts and No: 2 in the BBC6 Music album charts, a live DVD and numerous singles to their name, the Lancashire Hotpots continue to draw massive crowds and national support from all quarters of the musical spectre.
