EXPERIENCE THE WONDERFUL MUSIC OF FRANZ SCHUBERT AND ROBERT SCHUMANN

The "Trout Piano Quintet" Opus 114 by Franz Schubert

The Trout Quintet is the popular name for Franz Schubert's Piano Quintet.  The work was composed in 1819, when Schubert was only 22 years old.   Schubert's piece is written for piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass.  The usual piano quintet instrumentation is piano and string quartet.  The piece is known as the Trout because the fourth movement is a set of variations on Schubert's earlier Lied (song) " Die Forelle"  (The Trout).  The work is a wonderful example of  youthful energy and strength set to music.  Every audience that hears this piece cannot help but be drawn into it's rhythmic pulse and joyful exhilaration.  The 'Trout Quintet' is truly a musical celebration for every age!

The Shenandoah Virtuosi Quartet and Pianist Anne Conover

Piano Quartet Opus 47 by Robert Schumann

Robert Schumann's Piano Quartet Opus 47 is a brilliant tribute to the chamber music of Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn.  This great work of Schumann utilizes beautiful memorable, sweet and poignant melodies  together with remarkable excitement and energy.  Although a romantic period composer,  Schumann maintained classic form and unity throughout the piece with wonderful slow pauses, light sparkling imitation, major and minor sonorities and breathaking contrast in movements seamlessly woven together and in perfect dialogue amongst the instruments.  The Opus 47 will leave you on the edge of your seat feeling as though you had been lifted into a whirlwind of exquisite music!
