Description
The Wiener Hofburg Orchester, consisting of about 40 professional musicians and internationally renowned soloists of the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Volksoper, plays in the breathtaking halls of the Vienna Imperial Palace (Wiener Hofburg).

The Wiener Hofburg Orchester, founded 30 years ago by the musician and conductor Gert Hofbauer, presents concerts featuring famous and beloved compositions by the "King of Waltz" Johann Strauss and arias and duets from the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The two magnificent halls, the Festsaal and the Redoutensaal, of the Vienna Imperial Palace, provide the appropriately grand setting for concerts by the famous Wiener Hofburg Orchester. Formerly the winter residence of the Habsburgs, the Vienna Imperial Palace is unique among the great festive halls of Vienna. It was here that the Emperor held gala dinners and royal balls for his audiences. The Redoutensaal has a tradition that dates back over 300 years! No other concert hall in the world has witnessed so many historic performances by Mozart, Salieri, Beethoven, Paganini, the Strauss family and other notables. The Wiener Hofburg Orchester performs at the Palace from May through October.

By choosing a date in the ticket box on the right side of this page, you can see the hall in which the concert will take place.

Formal evening dress is not required, but do bear in mind the exceptional ambience of the Vienna Imperial Palace.
More about Wiener Hofburg
Wiener Hofburg
Vienna Hofburg (Imperial Palace) was the seat of the government of the Austrian sovereigns during the 13th century, the German kings and Roman emperors during the 15th century until 1806 (except for the period of 1740-1745) and of the Emperor of Austria until 1918. In the 15th century, the palace chapel was partly rebuilt. The Interior Burghof court was used as a tournament and theater square, and today is dominated by the late-Classicist monument (1824-1846 b P. Marchesi) dedicated to Emperor Franz I.The most important part of the Vienna Imperial Palace, from an artistic point of view, is the court library which was completed by J. E. Fischer von Erlach in 1735, after plans made by his father for Emperor Karl VI 1735. The superb façade, behind which is the magnificent library hall, is enclosed by 2 side wings built by N. Pacassi 1763-1769. The right wing houses the Redoutensäle halls (destroyed by fire in 1992, some parts reconstructed, for example new ceilings and murals by J. Mikl in the Großer Redoutensaal, were re-opened in 1997), the left wing, housing the collections of the National Library, also incorporates the façade of the Augustine church. All these buildings enclose the Josefsplatz square (with the equestrian statue of Emperor Joseph II, by F. A. Zauner), considered to be one of the most beautiful squares in Vienna.Last update 2007 Editorial Team Classictic.com
