About Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, UK
Description
The Birmingham Botanical Gardens opened in 1832, after the formation of the Birmingham Botanical and Horticultural society in 1929. The Birmingham Botanical Gardens themselves were designed by John Claudius Loudon – a gardening book and magazine author who dreamed of introducing peaceful and aesthetically pleasing green spaces to the cities of Britain.
The Birmingham Botanical Gardens that exist today can only exceed what Loudon had in mind all those years ago. Home to over 7000 plants from countries all over the world, features of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens also include a tea room and bandstand, a woodland walk and bamboo maze, a children’s discovery garden and playground, Japanese and bonsai gardens and a stunning bird collection. Four beautiful glasshouses are also situated in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Spread out over 15 acres, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses serve as a tranquil sanctuary amidst the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city. An educational charity, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ mission is to bring enjoyment through plant life, and to educate people on the essential function of plants in our everyday lives.
Given its impressive size, the gardens lends itself quite naturally to events hosting. Indeed, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens events calendar is a busy one, featuring everything from outdoor theatre and musical performances, to plant-related activities ( Bonsai demonstration and cactus shows), and those much-loved seasonal events (Easter egg hunts and Christmastime craft fairs). And this is just the tip of the ice-berg. Check out the Birmingham Botanical Gardens event listings for all the latest news and up-to-date information on what’s on at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
