Description
The "Original" Munchie Emporium Restaurant is our non-smoking dining area. This dining room was home to the first Kroger store in Ft. Wayne, and is the original dining room. This room has an eclectic feel and is decorated in antiques, odd knick-knacks, old signs, and 60's memorabilia. There is the Nixon corner containing posters, pictures and souvenirs from the 1960's Republican conventions.

One of the most noticeable features of the room is the hundreds of names of old-school loyal patrons that are hand-painted on the ceiling, put there by a local artist after their induction in an elite group known as "The Heineken Club". To become a member, you must have participated in a jovial ritual of swilling twelve Heineken beers. An asterisk by one's name indicates that you have completed this task in one sitting. I don't know how this got started, but judging by the number of names, there was no shortage of these 12 oz. green bottles. It is not uncommon to walk by customers today staring up at the ceiling pointing out their names to friends and reminiscing about initiation day.

The dining room, with it's exposed glass view onto Taylor Street, seats up to 68 people, and is a popular lunch spot for area workers and good friends. Check out our great menu!
