Event details: Celebrating 25!
Description
From its early Gastown Days, exhibitions featuring such prominent Canadian artists as Gershon Iskowitz, Michael Snow David Bierk and Jeffery Spalding, were alternated with those by emerging artists. The gallery subsequently focused on promoting young painters when other local galleries were less willing to take the risk. Many of these artists were still students at Emily Carr such as the eight young artists who made up the landmark Vancouver Art Gallery exhibition, The Young Romantics, curated by Scott Watson, and the collective Futura Bold (Grossmann, Gillmore, Lukacs, and Root).
Diane Farris Gallery enjoys a special relationship with Emily Carr University through Diane Farris' ability to identify and support the school's top talent over the years. The gallery was the first Vancouver gallery invited to exhibit the work of Futura Bold at the prestigious Cologne Art Fair in 1987. The gallery continues to play an important role in the Vancouver arts scene both nationally and internationally, with a dedication primarily to painting and drawing by both established and emerging artists.
We wish to thank all of the artists who have exhibited with us over the years and made Diane Farris Gallery a vibrant part of Canada's visual arts community.
