Explore the world of explorers and so much more. Step back in time to 1944 on board St Roch, Canadaâs celebrated RCMP schooner. Childrenâs Maritime Discovery Centre and historic vessels in Heritage Harbour. MELTDOWN: Oceans React to Global Warming In collaboration with the Canadian Association of Science Centers, the Museumâs feature exhibit provides a new âoceansâ perspective - a fresh look at climate change. Visitors will better understand the fundamentals of global warming, explore its impact on the oceans, the Arctic and land environments and find meaningful solutions to encourage change. Meltdown! focuses on changing marine ecosystems and tackles topics such as ocean acidification, ocean warming, sea level rise and the uncertain future of Pacific salmon stocks. The exhibit presents information and engaging displays on the changing Arctic that addresses Canadian sovereignty over a melting Northwest Passage. (till Dec 2009) People, Place and Stories â" Celebrating 50 Years with the Vancouver Maritime Museum This new exhibit in the J Torben Karlshoej Gallery is a photo essay that looks at the history of the Maritime Museum from 1959 to present. Visitors will learn about the people who have made and continue to make the Museum what it is today, how the place the Museum occupies within the greater community has evolved and changed, and flip through our interactive scrapbook and see the many stories that the Museum has told over the past 50 years. (till Jan 2010) Take a Stroll Down to the Harbour Don't forget to visit the Museum's Heritage Harbour with historic and classic vessels and small boat building workshop. The Harbour is open during daylight hours and is an opportunity to see the boats up close and perhaps speak with boat owners about their maritime adventures.
