About the City Slickuz
City Slickuz, South Florida’s latest rap duo, is poised to leave its mark on the minds of hip-hop connoisseurs who appreciate authenticity, lyrical dexterity and unique vocal delivery. Comprised of Charles Brown, aka “Stress”, and Gregory Gilmore, aka “Sparxx”, City Slickuz’s music has a feel reminiscent of hip hop from back in the day, but is relevant and relatable to serious new and old-school music lovers alike.
“Stress”, a raspy-voiced, New York born MC, transmits a stream of lyrics so free, but yet so fierce, manipulating his craft to reflect a range of styles with influences from the Caribbean and hip-hop from east to west coast. Of Jamaican descent, Stress overcame tumultuous times on the streets of Brooklyn, while his mother served prison time for 5 years during his childhood. His father was murdered when he was still an infant. After living in Jamaica for several years, Stress and his siblings came to Miami where his grandmother continued to raise them.
He met his collaborator “Sparxx” while in school at Miami Southridge Senior High. A native Miamian with Bahamian roots, Sparxx was raised in the southern end of town in the gritty housing complex known as The Square. This former hustler flows like a chameleon, flipping from crunk to conscious, from street to smooth seamlessly.
City Slickuz spit lyrics layered with diverse cultural influences and various genres of music. Their reputation for freestyling put them on the map locally and landed them a record deal with Miami-based Akono Entertainment. The release of their debut mixtape titled Starz Of Da Souf, hosted by DJ Spinz will no doubt implode the hip-hop scene.
