Event details: Oral Roberts University Patriotic Wind Ensemble Concert
Description
In honor of God and the men and women of the armed forces of the United States of America, the ORU Wind Ensemble will perform several traditional and more contemporary patriotic arrangements. Newer works will include Robert W. Smith's "Inchon." This piece is dedicated by the composer to his father, a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Inchon was the location of a surprise amphibious assault that turned the tide of the Korean conflict and freed Seoul from the forces of communist North Korea. This composition includes an unusual special effect in which the audience will experience the band imitating the sounds of a Marine helicopter taking the troops from the flight deck and into the landing zone.
Concert goers will also hear An American Fanfare composer Rick Kirby's rendition of the classic My Country 'tis of Thee' and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. This concert will honor every branch of the armed forces. The ORU University Chorale will also join the Wind Ensemble on several numbers.
Don't miss this evening of moving patriotic music. Admission is free. For more information call the ORU music department at 918-495-7501.
