Event details: In A Different Light - The Book of Geneisi in the Art of ...
Description
Location : Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art - 2021 E. 71st St.
Samuel Bak examines creation, cruelty, mortality, morality, and accusation. Subjects include: scriptural stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and the various encounters with their Creator, humankind&39;s passage through Time and its changing role in existence, tikkun hao&39;lam - the enormous task of repairing the world, and Michelangelo&39;s Creation of Adam, at whose center God&39;s and Adam&39;s pointing fingers nearly touch.
Imbued with the same rich color palette and use of metaphors for which Bak is renowned, Bak&39;s paintings add new symbols and characters to his repertoire. Moreover, this series from the Pucker Gallery asks difficult questions concerning divine compassion, human defiance, moral responsibility, and the role of the artist in society.
This exhibition marks the first time a Surrealist art exhibition has been on display in Oklahoma.
