Event details: Frank Lloyd Wright and Modernity: The House for an Art Lover
Description
This exhibition, in recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of Wrights death, examines the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and his European, British, and American counterparts in projects designed to display personal collections of artwork. The important 1901 House for an Art Lover competition sponsored by a German design magazine sought entries to design &39;a grand house in a thoroughly modern style&39;, and challenged architects to develop ideas which were fresh and innovative. Similarly, this exhibition will explore the idea of designing a home, landscape, and interior environment for art lovers over the past century. Formal and functional issues will be addressed in the subjects&39; architecture, furniture, and decorative artwork and broader ideas of nationalism, education, and patronage will offer insight into many of the twentieth century&39;s most important works.
