Spirit of the West weaves together many of the aesthetic threads of different cultures and customs that through time have contributed to the rich tapestry known as the American West. The visual history of this region, as viewed through western paintings, bronze sculptures, highly ornamental cowboy, cowgirl, and Caballero outfits, photographs, hand-tooled saddles, Native American traditional arts, custom-made boots, cowboy hats, bits, spurs, and other material objects, are presented as colorful manifestations of the unique look and feel of the American West, a truly distinctive aesthetic unto itself. The exhibition reflects the breadth of Western high style, from objects rooted in the historical legacy of the region through its more contemporary Western expressions.
