The Mountain Goats and Kaki King present:THE LAST HAPPY NIGHT OF YOUR LIFE

How we love The Mountain Goats! Memories of mid-to-late nineties are full of trading mixtapes of ancient boombox recorded albums, hearing the swirling of the Panasonic FT-500 dual cassette with that built-in condenser microphone screeching at the end of every song and the click of the record button. We were there for Taboo, we were there for Sweden and when the studio sound of Tallahassee came around we were still there. We have been the alpha couple, we have gone to Georgia and we have gone to Some Damned English City, we drove the Möbius strip of the west Texas highway and we all hailed Satan. When the demos for Heretic Pride came out, Vamsidasa Babaji, we knew that the ‘Goats were still in full effect.

In the infinite wisdom of Mr. Darnielle and Ms. King, they have chosen to play Tucson as the only Arizona date on this tour. In an even grander gesture to the people of the Old Pueblo, they made sure to make it happen at Club Congress. We here at Congress fondly remember the last time the ‘Goats played here and are greatly anticipating this tour. We are on pins and needles until Kaki King makes her Congress debut. Her new album is astonishing, it made fans of us for sure and we are certain it will make fans of anyone with a discriminating ear. In Darnielle’s own words:

When I try to talk about Kaki my usually reliable fund of superlatives seems insufficient. She is just the best. I am so excited about this tour. We can’t wait to play music with her every night, and we can’t wait to see you all there.

It’s the Last Happy Night of Your Life.

Donations, however, through either PayPal or Google Checkout, are greatly appreciated, and, lest there be any question, are earnestly desired; neither the recording nor the mastering (nor the pressing, Jah knows) were free, and this site exists as something of an experiment. If you choose to accept these songs, please stop by the collection plate (http://satanicmessiah.com) and sow your faith-seed, which, like a grain of mustard, et cetera.

More about Kaki King
Kaki King has never been one for convention. Her third album, ...Until We Felt Red (available August 8th), is certainly no exception. Over the last few years, she has enjoyed well-earned status as the zeit-girl of instrumental acoustic guitar; a gifted young ingénue closing rank on the canonized heroes of the genre. Now, with ...Until We Felt Red, she bests herself and defies expectation again. Like the yarn that graces the album's cover, she's spun her material out: the haunting melodies are sadder, the lush orchestrations are fuller, and the sharper edges can cut. Much of this can be attributed to the new sonic palate Kaki brings to the platter: distorted pedal steel, pounding drums, et... [View all of Kaki King's bio and tour dates]
