How should we face the current economic turmoil? Should the Canadian government abandon the balanced budget approach and spend more in order to stimulate the economy? What is the optimal short-term interest rate to improve economic outcomes?
These are just three of the questions to be addressed at the upcoming conference, Thriving after the Turmoil: Fresh Ideas for Canadian Fiscal and Monetary Policies, held in celebration of York Universityâs 50th Anniversary.
This inaugural conference of the Centre for World Challenge will take placeat Glendon College, at the BMO Conference Centre in the Manor, from Thursday, December 3 to Saturday, December 5. It will be chaired by Alexander Himelfarb, former Clerk of the Privy Council and new Director ofthe School of Public and International Affairs at Glendon.
The event will bring together prominent decision-makers, monetarist and neo-keynesian economists, York faculty members and public policy practitioners from Canada, the United States and Europe. They will share ideas and recommendations on economic policies in the context of the current crisis. Five students from the MPIA Program will also be selected to participate.
