This conference will bring together community activists and activist scientists from Brazil, India, South Africa and Arctic Canada to share stories about their local vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, make and strengthen connections, and discuss strategies for addressing inequities in climate change causation, mitigation, funding, education and global/local politics.

Participants will share their experiences in mobilizing local and academic-based knowledge, developing education strategies for climate change and organizing political initiatives, both sectorally and nationally. These presentations, along with the conference’s final outcomes, will be published following the meeting for dissemination in international policy circles.

The conference, to be held April 16 & 17 at York University in Toronto, Canada, is funded by Environment Canada, the Government of Canada’s International Polar Year Programme and York University’s Faculty of Environmental Studies, Institute for Research and Innovation in Sustainability, the Office of the Vice-President Academic and York International.
