Description
Fucked Up With Special Guests Thursday, July 16, 2009 ? The Phoenix 410 Sherbourne Street, Toronto, Ontario ?Unless you?ve been living under a rock, you?ll have at least noticed Fucked Up by now; thankfully ?The Chemistry Of Common Life? finally proves that rather than being a messy gimmick, Fucked Up are a startlingly talented punk rock band.? -(NME Magazine) Embrace is pleased to announce Fucked Up at The Phoenix Concert Theatre on Thursday, July 16, 2009. Fucked Up formed in Toronto in 2002, high-school friends influenced by first- and second-wave hardcore bands like Minor Threat and NOFX. It was instantly apparent that they were not carbon-copy punks. Their first 7" was entitled No Pasarán after an anti-fascist slogan from the Spanish Civil War. It was also ferociously melodic and inventive, setting the scene for a string of 25 singles over the next four years that combined political commentary with incredible musicianship and a sense of theater. The four years that followed the release of No Pasarán saw 7?s released with dizzying frequency, culminating in 2006?s Hidden World, a monumental double LP that was met with extraordinary enthusiasm from fans and critics alike, with Exclaim! Magazine naming it the best punk album of 2006. Fucked Up wasted no time in releasing another string of singles after Hidden World. Among these was the landmark 12? single Year Of The Pig (2007 What?s Your Rupture?), an eighteen minute opus that garnered attention from hardcore fans and mainstream critics and proved that Fucked Up had nowhere to go but forward. 2008 saw a deal struck between Fucked Up and Matador Records and the release of the double LP The Chemistry of Common Life, Fucked Up?s most critically acclaimed effort to date. Picking up where Hidden World left off, the album gained unprecedented mainstream attention, making countless ?best album? lists and even receiving a JUNO nomination, unheard of for a hardcore band.
