Colloquium Series on Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Science at York University
Location: Senate Chamber, N940 Ross Building
Apr 8, 2009, 3-5pm
Topic: Climate Change: Can Mathematics Help Clear the Air?
Speaker: Christopher Jones, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and University of Warwick
Climate change is about the future and mathematical models are the best way we have of extrapolating from past and present climates. But are they reliable? What kind of information do they contain? Why is it important to make predictions when there is scientific consensus on climate change anyway? In this talk, Jones will consider what mathematicians can do to help sort this out and make some points as to where we might put our energies to best effect in addressing climate change.
This lecture will take place April 8 from 2 to 4pm in the Senate Chamber, N940 Ross Building. The series of lectures is open to the public, particularly undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty members.
