The vision that would become The Songbenders began in Houston, Texas in early 2009. Five singer/songwriters decided to band together to perform as a group, sharing the stage, their music and their lyrical stories with others. The Songbenders came together as a result of performing with each other in various formations in a “Writers-in-the-Round” format. These occasions helped forge a friendship and mutual respect between them as fellow songwriters. With their various personal backgrounds and somewhat differing musical styles, The Songbenders present songs that reflect the full range of human emotions and real life situations. While Songbender performances mostly follow the same in-the-round format, there is always some onstage collaboration between the members with added music and harmonies, the telling of tall tales, the occasional “special guests”, and the all-important audience sing-alongs, etc., insuring that some very cool things always happen at a Songbender show. For The Songbenders, banding together felt like a very real and natural occurrence: it felt like the right thing to do.
