Panther Mountain Traverse for Peter Cirilli

=== This is a REPEAT posting of Feb28th hike which we had to cancel due to heavy snow === This hike is for Peter Cirilli. As many of you know, Peter passed away recently and this was one of the hikes I had been talking with him. He had mentioned to do this on his own and 'didn't want to bother anyone' as this was the only peak he needed to complete the winter requirement of Catskill 3500 club. I was hoping to organize a hike before the end of winter. But I think now is the right time to go to this mountain and remember him. Please join even if you did not know Peter. He was the gentlest person, soft spoken, a great listener and above all the friendliest of hikers around. We will miss him for sure. Difficulty: Moderate Distance: 7~8 miles Vertical Rise: 2,850ft Elevation Gain Profile Estimated Time: 8 hours Map/s: NYNJTC Map#42, Central Catskill Trails Trail Blaze/s: Phonecia-East Branch Trail, Giant Ledge-Panther-Fox Hollow Trail Trip Highlights: Giant Ledge, Panther Mountain, many overlooks CARPOOL AT S&S IN TARRYTOWN IS AT 6:30. WE WILL LEAVE PROMPTLY AT 6:45. We will hike at a slow to moderate pace to be able to complete within daylight. But as is necessary on any hike, please bring a head-lamp or flash light. The temperatures are known to plummet more than 15 degrees, so you will have to be prepared in layers.. We will start the hike from Rt. 47 Giant Ledge trailhead parking lot. We will hike the Giant Ledge with its magnificent views of the Catskill peaks.
